Triton Knoll Wind Farm proposes ‘more of the same’ after Galloper £multi-million contract and east coast jobs

Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm has pledged ‘more of the same’ in Lincolnshire, after east coast Galloper Wind Farm Ltd (GWFL)(1) today announced a new £25m contract that will generate up to 100 local jobs (2).

The Galloper contract award was made to James Fisher for offshore and marine services, and is a great example of the kind of opportunities Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm would also be able to unlock as it moves towards construction.

Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm has an expected capacity of up to 900MW. Once the project is constructed, it could provide enough electricity to meet the energy needs of up to 800,000 average UK households annually (3). The project already has a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the offshore array, granted by the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change in July 2013; a similar application for the Electrical System is being considered by the Planning Inspectorate and is due be determined later this year.

Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm project director James Cotter, said: “Today’s contract award is a great example of how the offshore wind sector is driving inward investment and creating jobs that benefit the east coast economy, and we anticipate Triton Knoll will be in a position to offer more of the same in future.

“In Lincolnshire, the ‘Northern powerhouse’ continues to boom and is in a great position to compete for the ‘lion’s share’ of opportunities within the sector. We firmly believe Triton Knoll is one of the best emerging opportunities for the local supply chain, representing a significant renewables investment in Lincolnshire, while actively expecting to deliver around 50% ‘Made in the UK’ content during construction and operation.

“We’re keen that Lincolnshire-based firms are best placed to bid for contracts, and so we’ll be stepping-up our supply chain engagement shortly in order to meet our aspirations for the region and the UK. We strongly urge firms to look out for our engagement opportunities in coming weeks and months.”

(3) Energy predicted to be generated by the Triton Knoll proposal is derived using long term wind speeds calculated by meteorological models seeded with historical weather data obtained from satellite, surface-based and airborne measurement systems. The energy capture predicted and hence derived homes equivalent or emissions savings figures may change as further data are gathered. Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4500 kWh. This figure is supported by recent domestic electricity consumption data available from The Digest of UK Energy Statistics and household estimates and projections from the UK Statistics Authority.)
